CHRISTMAS MARKET IN BASEL
23th November - 23th December 2011
The festive season will start on 23 November. The President of the Executive Council will switch on Basel?s Christmas lights. Throughout Basels streets and squares, some 100 Christmas trees will be illuminated simultaneously. Shops, businesses and numerous facades will also sparkle in bright golden lights. After all, Basel has the longest Christmas street in Europe. It begins at Aeschenplatz, leads via Freie Strasse and Eisengasse to the Mittlere Brücke, and from there all the way to Messeplatz. The idyllic Christmas market is located at Barfüsserplatz and Theaterplatz at the heart of the city centre, surrounded by the pre-Christmas decorations of the historical Old Town. Traders with cheerfully illuminated stands offer there goods. Culinary delights can also be tasted, from cups of mulled wine, waffles, delicious ?Basler Läckerli? or the always-popular grilled sausages.
